2000 camaro, do head bolts 11-15 really only get torqued to 22 foot pounds?

for reference, i suppleid the link.......

i need to pull the drivers side head, and am using new gm head bolts.....so according to that article, the 5 10 mm bolts alont the top of the head really only get torqued to 22 foot pounds? sounds a little low figured like 50ish? just wanna make sure.

Yes. The bigger bolts provide all the clamping force for the heads. Not sure what purpose the smaller bolts serve.

Yea the small bolts are kinda just there as a support to the large head bolts...

They appear to seal the lifter housings by clamping the head gaskets. Can't say for certain as I've never seen a GM publication that specifies their purpose.

Yes, they seal the lifter area. Think about this...

Where the larger bolts are, combustion is taking place, demanding a greater hold when it comes to bolts. The smaller bolts only have to seal oil, not combustion.

Wow, maybe you have the right idea, but it sure came out as dumb.

Correct, and you'd be surprised how many heads are clamped this way, big bolts around the cylinder and smaller ones around anything else (to provide an oil seal)...on everything from car engines to 4 wheelers

Its ok to dummy things down, however, how is anyone ever gonna get any smarter? Make the dummies work for it
