Default putting 02 pcm in a 98

As it says I'm gonna be putting an 02 pcm in my 98 for tuning purposes as I've been told by multiple sources the 99-02 pcms are much better to work with and tune. The couple tuners in my area won't even hardly touch a 98 bc of this. My question is would I be better off to keep my 98 harness and have it repinned, bc I've been told this is the easiest way, or buy the whole new harness. This is an area I've never done or messed with so any suggestions will be of great help

Been throwing this idea around too. Problem is, if you get an 02 harness to match the brain, your wires are different under the dash where the engine harness connects to the body harness.

I opted to re pin my 98 harness simply because I can take it out and do it while watching tv. I don't have to hunt and re pin things while upside down in the passengers seat under the dash.

I have a 98 too and looked Ito this but all the rewiring leaves rooms for errors that outweigh the tuning benefits in my eyes...good luck tho

I've been told its easy to repin the pcm and keep the stock 98 harness. If its as easy as people keep telling me, the$100 I spent on the 02 pcm will be well worth it to me

It is easy, but one wire out of place and it all has to come out and back apart.

I don't know if your allowed to ask questions about tuners that aren't sponsors, but the 2 tuners closest to me aren't sponsors and I wanted to know if anyone knew anything about them to help me choose where to go. There's cincy speed in cincinatti and bluecat tuning close to Ashland, ky. I live in Jackson,oh so I'm kinda in between the 2. I've seen a couple things posted about bluecat and heard some good things about cincy speed from a friend

why dont you just leave them alone? even though 98s are a little harder to tune, any good tuner will be able to do it.

Bww3588, I'm in chilli everyday I work there at UPS lol. John563, I actually bought my car from a guy in beavercreek. I've been asking around and most have told me to go to bluecat. So that's where I'm going. I've been told by multiple people Phil is a top notch lsx tuner and one of the best in the country.

This swap opens some doors for the DIY tuner...

not only is it easier to tune 1 VE table (rather than 2), but it allows flashing of a boost/nitrous COS, and allows easier swapping of the trans segment

(segments have to be from the same OS id; the 2002 12212156 comes with both 4L60E/car and 4L80E/truck segments).

I feel like I made the right decision making the switch for future mods and tuning. And to update I talked to bill of bluecat tuning and that's where ill be going. Very nice guy and very helpful. But on the downside they are so booked up I can't get in until September. Gives me time to buy a stall converter which I am in the process of researching and looking around for

If your tuner won't touch a 98, go somewhere else. There are some differences yes, but if someone told me they wouldn't touch a 97-98 PCM I would question their skills.

The tuner I'm using has nothing but good things said about them on here or any other forums. Look up bluecat in ky. I trust them
