Default Trying to find intake/vacuum leak help

So my car keeps throwing a code p0507 says idles to fast or high. The car does idle kind of high like 1100 rpm it is tuned so I thought it could be the iac valve well I replaced that and it got worse like idling at 2 to 3k I put the old one back in and now I think there is a leak somewhere but I can't find it and the only way I know how is a smoke machine I don't have one and rather not pay someone to do it if someone on here knows a way to find a vacuum leak. Thanks

First, make sure the O-Ring is installed on the IAC.

Grab a can of starter fluid and randomly spray around the likely culprit areas..... around manifold, connections post MAF, rear of intake. The idle will jump when you find it.

If you want to use old-school vacuum leak chasing methods,
unplug the IAC after it's at a steady idle, otherwise the PCM
will fight you, probably faster than you can hear RPM change.
Or lock IAC position using your scan tool, if you have one
with those controls.

The PCV boot is a common failure with age.

Question #1 is, did this behavior show up on its own (a
probable hardware failure) or along with some modification?

It showed up after I put the breather on and took off the pcv system but when I put the pcv system back on completely it did the same thing along with puting a bunch of oil in the intake. It's a ls6 pcv set up right now I have breathers on both valve covers and caps on everything else

That's the issue.

Cap the driver's rear and passenger rear port on the valve cover.
Get a catch can- your choice. I like Norris myself.

Line from passenger's front nipple on valve cover goes to throttle body.
LS6 valley nipple to top of catch can, side of catch can to intake manifold.

As much as you might like it and stand behind it, those breathers aren't helping you at all.

I'm going to check everything else first but if I can't find any leaks I'll try that. Would I need a pcv with the catch can?

You'll need an 04+ LS6 valley cover if you want a clean install. Otherwise You can run one inline of an older LS6 valley.

Depends on which ls6 valley you have. pre-2004 or 2004+

If it's pre2004 then you put it in line with the hose that goes from the valley nipple to the top nipple of the catch can.

If you have a 2004+ then it's built in to the valley and you just run a single hose from the vally nipple to the top of the CC

Could the maf cause any of these problems? cause there are no vacuum leaks anywhere on the intake, throttle body, hoses all are hooked up fine not leaking. And when i unplugged the maf while the car was running it idled much better the rpms droped to about 900 and where steady where before the would surge just a little at idle. I have a slp 85mm maf on it right now or could this still be cause by the breather and lack of pcv system on the car?
