Default Cold Feet... True Duals

my exhaust has sold and in the time being i changed my mind on how i wanted to do my true duals

I read thru an old *** thread and the wise Mr. Luos said unto them

You need to have that panhard bar kit to run 3" duals over a 9" axle.
So we took mine to 2.5" over the axle. No biggie, don't care what kinda power it makes with it capped. Actually very tame (for a large cammed 402) with the cutouts closed.
Magnaflow mufflers under the rear bumper.

Those words of wisdom made me think, why dont i have 3' cut outs after the headers then run 2.5" the rest of the way back over axel and into the same magnaflow muffers that he ran?

what do you think?

Parts:
(1) Summit 2.5"or 3" X pipe
(2) Summit 3" Cutout
(2) 3" to 2.5" reducers
(?) random bent piping from a shop
(2) Magnaflow 14x5x8s
(2+) band clamps
(2) corsa clones?
hows this look (looks like a 5th grader drew it... i know)

a better look at it over driverside axel

and the mufflers right before the tips
man i love this car

Whatcha think?

2.5 or 3?
3 would be nice for power but for the strip, cut out will be open
2.5 would be nice for clearence and the back half is gonna be 2.5 anyways
2.5 would give more backpressure for DD driving with cut outs closed and the 3 cutouts will give the flow i need at the track...so
and this car will never see over 600rwhp/rwtq anyways

And oval pipes...good for clearance, bad for flow.

Well im open headers right now and its raspy as hell and sounds disgusting but volume wise its what im looking for! Haha.
The cutout will be there for the strip and future mods like procharger

Just something on the cutouts. I've never seen one actually gain anyone any HP or tenths off their 1/4 mile. Actually I've seen one car dyno worse after cutout install.

Well, from what i read. You gain low end from back pressure, but you gain high end from the cut outs. Mr. Luos had a little thread comparing his dyno sheets but he didnt have the sheets posted anymore.

Can anyone else speculate??

Where did you hear that? If they have the same cross-sectional area, what does it matter if they are oval or round?

^ This. if it is long enough sideways to make up for the distance from top to bottom it should have the same flow.

either way its pricey as ****..
im a cheapo.

im leaning towards the 2.5 with the 3'' cut outs after the headers for several reasons
1-cut outs will be open when performance matters
2-more clearance with 2.5 over 3
3-$20 cheaper

A 3 inch oval pipe has the same csa as a 2.5 round pipe roughly. In order to get the same flow out of a oval pipe as you would a 3 inch round you would need an oval pipe that is 4x2.25.

So you would gain .75 inch ground clearance but give up 1 inch side to side.

I'm not debating oval pipe can't flow just as good as round, but you can't just slap in 3 inch oval and expect it to flow the same as 3 inch round.

In that case, you may as well save money and buy 2.5 round tubing and live with the .25 inch less ground clearance and the added 1.5 inch clearance side to side.
