Default quick motor swap question

I guess this is the right place to post this.... Put it up on performance trucks too.

Replacing the motor in an 05 Chevy half ton 4x4. Came with the iron 5.3 and I'm looking at two motors to drop in it. One is a direct drop-in Gen III 5.3, same as the current motor. The other is a 08 5.3 shortblock. Tried looking for an LQx but couldn't find one that I can afford right now.

The 08 shortblock is local, less mileage and about $500 cheaper. So to swap the newer Gen IV motor over do I only need to hookup a Lingenfelter reluctor module? Other than that it should all be direct fit right?

Then which cam do I use, the one in the truck already or the 08? Is there anything else I should ask or know before going to pick up the newer motor?

Thanks in advance!

Yes it's a direct swap in but you'll need a knock sensor and cam sensor relocation harness since the knock sensors are on the side of the motor and cam sensor is on the front cover. A few sponsors have them. You're also going to need to reflash your computer for the newer engine.

If you are just dropping in a stock motor get a mail order tune from either frost or look on performancetrucks.net for they're tuning sponsors.
