If you have $8k I would do it right. Start from the rear and work forward. Ditch the 10 bolt and get a better rearend with some 3.73 gears at least along with some common F-body suspension upgrades. LS6 intake, cam, and supporting upgrades along with a stall and you can have a GT eater although it doesn't take too much to have one of those!

If I had 8K I would get a longblock from TSP. Prolly either a stroker 383 or move on to a larger cube LS2 or LS3 motor. Depending on how large your future plans are.

By rebuild the LS1 do you mean make it faster or does it need an overhaul? If I needed a bottom end I would go with a bigger Long block to and put what money I had left back for a rearend, espescially if its a M6.

if the car is an m6 i would definitely swap out the rear end. use the rest to rebuild the motor and add heads, cam, intake and tune. if its an auto take the rear end money and get the trans rebuilt and a good quality torque convertor with the h,c,and intake

I'd build the bottom end and boost it, and up grade the rear end.
