Default Descreened MAF

I have read that descreening the stock MAF will result in gained HP. Has anyone else done/read this. I really want to get a new GMS MAF sensor but the $300+ it costs will make me wait awhile.

Thanks in advance

Keep your stock MAF as is, especially if you plan on modding more and eventually having your car tuned. Spend those $300 on DRAG RADIALS. Now that's a real mod.

I think its safe to say that 90% of the people on here have removed the screen. Takes only a couple of mins. Most dont port it though.

I'm in the 10% category then.
I've actually cleaned pieces of debris off the screen on my MAF.

I have a set of de-screened and ported stock MAF ends. I am not using them since I have an A4.....M6 guys can get away with them...no pics, but they turned out very nice.

PM me if interested....

99ssleeper,

Might be a dumb question.... but my third grade teach said "there's no such thing as a dumb question." So this is the first opportunity I'm putting that phrase into action........... ANYWAY........ how come M6 guys can get away with ported, descreened MAF ends and A4 guys cannot?

Thanks

the search button is your friend. It holds the answer to almost all questions (including this one!)

Teachers are paid to say that. Plus they get off on seeing
people take messed-up advice. Sick bastages, those school
teachers.

MAF output => load calc => transmission shift points, shift
pressures. Being a slacker when the heat is on, gets your
transmission fried. Extra slip and heat in the clutches and
that kind of thing.

jimmyblue is correct. trans shift points are governed by engine load which is a function of reported MAF numbers. M6 guys dont have this problem, since a computer does not shift their trans, and can use ported ends.
