MTI lid
Just bought myself a clear lid and had a question about installing it. I plan on going by the installuniversity directions but theres something I dont think was mentioned. On the baffles on the driver side there is a black rubber hose and it runs downwards from there. What is this and what do I do with it?

Sounds like you have a 2001 or 2002 car.
That's the air breather tube for the AIR injection system.
Best bet is to go to a local parts store and get a filter that will fit in the end of it.
BTW.. the front lip of the lid goes IN the groove in the lower airbox.. not in front of it.

It will look like this.
You can buy this filter at autozone or even walmart in the ricer section. It is pretty much generic.
All the air injection does is suck in fresh air and send it into your exhaust system while the car is warming up. This helps the cats get to working temp sooner.
Adding this filter will not hurt your system at all, but you might hear the sucking sounds from it while it cycles on and off.
There are no performance gains or losses with the AIR system.

Oh your hooked buddy, this is just the tip of the ice berg, you might as well make the jump and order headers, catback, port your TB, FTRA, converter, super charger, new tranny, H/C package, ET streets, and everything else
The other day I was under my car and said to myself "Jesus, I have to replace all this ****, the only thing that'll probably stay is the motor and frame"

lol I plan on doing a lot of stuff to my car but im sad cuz I know none of it is gonna be real soon. Im flat broke in college right now, spent all my money (well almost all, goto keep something in the bank to keep the account open) on my car. Its just gonna be lil by lil. Anyhoo I got my lid today and installed it right away. The thing looks sick. Really cleaned up the engine bay and just looks plain bad a$$. I bought a lil 10 dollar breather filter for that air tube and tucked it near the driver/right side of the engine bay. Looks nice where it sits now, red filter with chrome caps.
When I was installing it though a thought came to me. I remember how people were having trouble with their holley powershot filter not fitting. I reached under to see if I could move the filter and it wouldnt budge. I also can see the rubber part pressed against the plastic for the most part. Some of its kinda hard to see. How do I know if I have a good seal?

Install it anywhere as long as it dosent get in the way of the pulleys, I zip tied mine to a brace on the radaitor. It dosent connect to the airlid. It isnt the best idea to drive around with out the breather filter on the AIR hose, but its not the end of the world either. Just get one on as soon as you can cause that air will end in your intake.

If you don't install it, the AIR pump will draw in unfiltered air. Eventually, you will get an accumulation of crap in the AIR pump and that crap will also be blown into your exhuast possibly clogging you cats. Unless you drive in the dirt often, I would imagine this would take some time.
