Default Porting and polishing my intake worth it?!?!

Ok so I got a great trade on a 96mm typhoon professional products intake. I bought a brand new 102mm nw throttle body. And I dropped it off to the machine shop for porting and polishing and they quoted me $1200 to port my intake and polish it. Now it that extra $1200 really worth it? Ill definitely be porting it to a 102mm but as far as the runners and that....the intake does have a rough finish so I'm presuming the runners and everything will be ported and polished. I just need some opinions if anyone has them? Power gains, air flow, power to money ratio... Blah blah blah.

$1200!!!!!! that shop is a complete rip off!!! Most places that are reputable only charge around $300. If you gonna spend $1200 might as buy a ported fast 102. Porting a typhoon though will only net you 8hp maybe on a good day. So save your money and either buy a fast intake or put that money into somewhere else like a good set of heads.

Well it's a shop that's very reputable. And does a lot of work on friends heads and intakes also. I ask for another quote at another shop and I guess I'll go from there.

Peak Speed Shop was offering intake/tb porting for around $300. Not sure what the price is now. Didn't see any complaints about their work. Might want to check that out. Just mail them the intake and they take care of it.

I wouldn't waste more than $100-200 on porting that intake. A stock fast 102 will make more power than a ported typhoon.

Couldn't you buy a FAST 102 and a new throttle body for $1200?

Options:

1) install it as is

2) do some light cleanup yourself if you have access to a compressor and a $10 harbor freight air tool

3) sell the intake and put a little more with it over what you would pay for any porting at all and buy a Fast 102mm to match your TB or sell both and get a 92mm intake and TB

I wouldn't even pay $300 to port that intake. All your doing is closing the price gap between an inferior intake and a Fast. I would be shocked if that intake ported gained 5rwhp over what it makes stock.

My friend has the same set up as mine and he gained 20hp over the ls6...so what's what I'm hoping but he went with a ported 92mm tb and the 96mm typhoon. So with me porting it out to 102mm I guessing maybe 1-5 more ponies. And my tune(from Shelby Las Vegas) will cost me $650 alone....so in trying to spare as much change as possible.

It also depends on the dyno and conditions the day of the run.

FAST 102's will normally make 20-25hp more than an LS6. If the typhoon like your friends was picking up the same gains as a FAST, more people would run them. But that's just not the case.

Well it was a mustang dyno and the day was 100 degrees to 110. And he did 3 pulls all of which were 1-4hp differences.

IMO the fast intakes are waaaaaaay overpriced with the gains you see from them. I actually got this pp intake with fuel rails 42lb injectors and ss lines.

FAST prices are ridiculous but they are proven.

as you make more power it will compliment your setup nicely.

ive read too many stories of other intakes under performing while FAST with a good tune and proper setups make excellent power.

im thrilled with mine. but this is just my experience.

honestly if they want that much money and you are even considering it that blows my mind...ditch the typhon and get a fast... i switched from a ported bbk to a stock fast 102 and gained 16hp, i would make the change and never look back

Anyone that charges $1200 to port an intake is not very reputable.

I'm not considering it. I simply posted it to get opinions about this audacity. I also wanted to know what numbers would I see IF I get it done. And yes I still say fast is waaaaaay too expensive. But thanks for you opinions I've tried finding another shop and no luck here in Vegas. If anyone knows a place lmk. But otherwise I'm looking to send it out of state to get it ported.

Flip mike, do you know what the definition of trolling is?

I think the typhoon is a great looking intake
