Default doing motor mounts with headers in car

So 2 years ago i put pacesetter long tubes in the car.

This weekend I am going to attempt to do the motor mounts.

I really do not want to take the headers out if I do not have to.

I plan on loosening the pedestal.

Has anyone done these with the headers in?

If so please some suggestions... Thanks

Will the pedestals be able to be snaked out with the mounts while the headers are still in?

Thanks

I'm sure its a possibility if you want bloody nuckles. Its a really tight fit in there none the less having the headers in the way too. I know I did my motor mounts when I was swapping my headers in and it still is a pain in the a@$. Because the alternator needs to come out as well as the a/c compressor unbolted and pushed aside. Where you will run into problems is putting it back in if you get it out. I did mine one side at a time to not run into problems re-alligning the motor back up and slipping the clam shells into the mounts. If you pull both at the same time and it doesnt happen all the time the motor goes out of allignment and you need to break out your spare tire jack and put it down on the flat side of the shock tower on the passenger side and push the motor back over.

Personally it's not that many bolts to take the headers back off so i would just do it because it will go a lot fast in the mong run. You will need all the extra space you can get.

I have done it with pacesetters in place, but I also have a tubular K and tubular A-arms, made access to the mounts much easier. This job is already an SOB, could not imagine trying it with LTs and stock k-member in place.

Like bluenightmare said clear your weekend. It would be easier just to spend 30 minutes to take them out to save yourself some time and frustration in the long run.

I made the mistake and did mine with shorty headers installed and it took all weekend!
Do yourself a favor; it'll be a lot easier with the headers out!

I swapped my mounts and left the longtubes in place, but it was a PITA. I ended up stripping one of the bolt holes to mount pedestal to k member and had to drop k to fix. It can be done but I think pulling the headers would make it alot easier.

Good deal! The last thing you want to do is fight getting them out, only to have to fight those damn rusted up clamshells! I went solid to avoid this, but new polys in set of clam shells ready to go is just as good!.

Good Luck and just take your time and you'll get it. When my buddy and I did it we mounted the mount to motor then lowered it onto the pedestal in the end.

update.

About 2.5 hours from start to finish to get the drivers side motor mount done with the header in the car.

Was not to painful. A little reconfiguring until it lined up. Bolted clam shell to block Loosened pedestal go it lined up and everything went together nice and easy.

Good to hear that you were able to get the driver side done in a reasonable amount of time, hopefully the passenger side goes as well also.
