Default need some help please

sorry for the newbie type question but what exactly am i looking at here ( with the rotted hole in it). a vacuum line of some sort? my car has been running very shity lately feels like its literally stalling at a stop sign and when i give it gas to go it kind of sputters and hesitates before going. the ses light came on the other day then went off, i noticed my gas milage as also been horrible( like 16 mpg ) my orignal thought was bad o2 sensors but i just popped my hood on my lunch break and notice this ? car just hit 100k miles last week. a4 2002 z28 .

That's part of the PCV system. You will want to get that hole fixed as it is creating a vacuum leak.

^^^ spot on...basically that hole is letting un-metered air into the engine, will definitely run shitty. I would also inspect the rest of the PCV system for leaks.

Agreed. Right up from that is your PCV valve. It is pretty common to have "oil rott" on the pipe around the PCV valve. Anything that is mushy I would replace. PCV Valve is $2.99 might as well get a new one. Had to replace mine as it all got gunked up with oil.
