Default why would anyone buy a catted y pipe for LTs?

Since it's against federal emissions laws to move cats from the stock location, why would anyone spend the extra money on a catted y pipe to go with LT headers? I would assume any area that requires emissions testing would not pass a car with cats in a location other than a stock location, or are there areas that do?

Probably so they don't have to smell as much exhaust fumes. Also a lot of places don't care as long as there's cats on the car.

1 to cut down on fumes
2 to take some rasp out
3 to pass a visual

Some places are not as strict as the feds would like them to be. I live in one of those up your *** in your business nanny states but I havent really seen any place around here being very strict. I have a feeling thing WILL tighten up soon though.

Some of us around here have a catted y pipe just in case for visual inspection. Now, my catted y pipe might just be gutted

Catted Y pipes sound better than ORY pipes. Easier to pass inspection.

Given that good high flow cats only cost a few hp on non-crazy builds, I don't see why anyone would buy catless Y pipes. Cats kill the smell and tame the exhaust rasp and help with tone. It's basically a win-win for under $100 difference over catless pipes.

1. The smell of a non-catted car is not pleasant
2. You have a 95% chance of the car sounding like *** with a non-catted y-pipe on an F-body.

I ran over the axle duals for years without cats, and it was cool at first, but it got old after a while. The car could be heard from miles away, and I hated smelling like gas after getting done driving it.

Honestly, I got them because i was afraid of rasp. Read several threads before I bought my LT+ Catted Y, and a bunch of people were complaining about rasp. Little unknown noises annoy me more than anything, so I didn't want to take the chance...

I wanted catted y actually. I was talked out of it said it would hang to low. I also am in CT also. I called j and m motorsports and he does inspection. Stay away from him by the way. He said they check the temperature of the cats. I think he does but dont believe most shops would do this but what do I know. There is a fake cats they sell. i might just get those installed. I have almost 2 years to go so not to worried but that will come up quick. The smell is terrible. My 4 year old said to me the other day daddy why does it smell like gas. Dont cart him in this car much.

Do a search on here and you will find MANY complaints. I paid for 3 pulls and he gave me 1. Wouldnt even cut me a deal. He told me my car was running way to lean so he didnt wanna blow it up. Told me he could charge me a few hundred to fix it then haha. Ended up taking my car to another tuner and it wasnt lean at all. It was just the factory tune. The guy is a hack con artist **** him

I know I just called him for hahas to get a gauge on what the header install was. I was talking about an ory and and to pass emisions. He wanted to charge me like 2k lol and some **** about flattening the headers. Complete hack. he then said how he could put a 160 degree theromastat and change the coolant if I wanted. I would of walked out of there with 4 broken header bolts and a 4k bill
