Options on intake
Hey guys, I've been searching and just can't make my mind up on a intake manifold. Everyone's setups are different and wanted more of a personal opinion based on my setup. Currently I have a ls1 motor fully p/p 799 heads ms3 cam 38lbs injectors 85mm TB 85mm maf housing. And a choking ls1 manifold. I feel the manifold is totally gaging my setup haha one thing I know is that a fast is out the question in school $$ on a budget. Looking along the lines of a bbk ssi ls6 or a Holley300-111 what should I do to lay some more power down?? Thanks

What kind of budget are you working with? The used FAST 90/92s are not really that far off from the LS6 intakes.
I know you'll have the TB issue needing to buy one, I know. But maybe throw your old stuff on eBay and see what happens. You'd be surprised the older guys that hotrod with the new (to them) LS1's and think the motor has plenty of power as is and are perfectly happy with an LS1 intake and stock TB.

With your setup. I would save for fast. Obviously you spent a little money on the car why not spend a little more. But out of the two choices you stated I would go with the BBK for sure

I would get a ls6 intake over the bbk for various reasons, one namely being heat soak of the intake and the resale value. The ls6 intake is very easy to resell if you later wanted to buy a fast and its much better than a ls1. It can be picked up used for a decent price half the time as well.

The BBK makes slightly more power than an ls6.

+1, the only thing bad about the BBK is it weighs a little more because it's aluminum. It looks really cool, so that makes it up to some people and it's good for squeezing out a few more hp over the LS6

From a budget minded standpoint, as you've stated you're on, I think your best bet is a used LS6 intake.
They can be had for 325 shipped all day long. You're going to shell out an easy extra 150 bucks for a potential 5hp gain. The HP per dollar simply doesn't compute.
That, and when you go to sell the LS6 if and when you ever upgrade, you get back what you paid. Selling the BBK you're going to lose at least a bill right off the bat.

Get a ls6 intake ,like you the ls1 was choking my car with headers and ory. Car pulls way harder. I would love a fast maybe someday but very happy with ls6. Good for 15-20 hp

Bbk does heat soak.. that is true plus weighs 14 lbs. Compared to the ls6 6 lbs. I would go and save a little for the fast set up. Would be glad u did in the long run. Instead having spend more money later and double the work if u decide get a fast aftrr u get a ssi r something close.. don't get me wrong.. ssi bbk ect.. are the middle class of ls6 and fast.. but the 14 lb of bbk and heat soak would concern me
