Default Holley Hi-Ram Cathedral Port Installed **Updated**

Well this certainly turned out to be more work than I originally figured.

I saw a few install pictures, on westtexasbuff and stangkiller, so I though all I was going to do was cut the cowl a little and trim my hood...

WRONG.

The cathedral port is significantly taller.

Here is what I worked on today.

I started by letting the k-member drop down 3/4" on the bolts. and drew some lines as an initial guide. Then I bolted it back up in place.

These are my tools.

I used the right angle grinder to remove any metal that was in my way.
The dremel was used to remove glass, while a friend sprayed water and air to keep it cool.

Then the 3M air sander is used to clean up the edge when I am done.

I kept test fitting by setting the base in place and check how far back I could set the upper plenum. It started around 5", it now sits perfectly in place, but I am going to make a little room for engine movement.

This is the first time I have ever done any glass work. I did a little google-ing and found a 5 min youtube video... Since I was Youtube certified, I figured I'd give it a try.

Im not sure what you're talking about? I came up with this idea myself, I had no idea how well it would work. The only involvement my friend had was to spray air and water.

ok, I was thinking your friend knew more about glass or somthing.

I cut mine back the the glass, and noticed it didnt look like you could go back much more before to have the glass and the metal start getting apart, and have a opening. I had about 1inch of the black sealer, so I take it you have the notch steel were the glass in in the sealer? Did you think about getting the room in the intake top, cutting the welding the alum.

Yea, I figure Ill worry about that when I get done. but I can add some steel for support and throw some extra urethane in there.

I did have a dream last night that I went downstairs in the morning, and my windshield was shattered. haha

We did think about cutting the intake, I just wasn't thrilled with the idea.

I came up with lots of ideas, and this one was the cheapest/quickest.

Low rise and it sucks, LS6 is better.

How do you ports line up... the ends when you line up the middle ones?

I cut mine off, the metal right along the glass, and did out a little chip but only on the outside. It was fine last fall, but I only put 1-200miles on it. I was thinking I probably should polish/grind the chip so its a smooth notch or somthing tho.

Just out of curiosity did you use a diamond dremel blade?. Ive cut 2" thick glass with those no problem. Just keep the edges smooth and it shouldnt crack. $15.

Ballsy move, looks cool.

Yes definitely. I use a purple 3M polishing disc on a pneumatic right angle grinder.

It was an 1/8" bit I had from cutting tile. But I am going to pick up a different disc to try to speed up the process, before I finish.

Guess who cut their hood.

Im not done yet, I still have to trim for my throttle body, and do some finish work.

The intake will be sanded smooth and powdercoated gunmetal to match everything else on the car.
