Default AC Delco changing recommended plug for LS1

It looks like AC Delco is changing their recommended plug for our stock LS1s from the iridium 41-985/41-110 to the platinum 41-962:
http://www.acdelcotechconnect.com/pd...-news-2013.pdf

What are your opinions on this? Naturally the platinums are a little cheaper but what are the tradeoffs? lower performance, colder plug, etc...?

I think originally our LS1s came with 41-974 from the factory which I think is a platinum plug just with a different gap, but then was changed to iridium by this TSB [#03-06-04-060 - (10/24/2003)] right?

please don't just say "use NGK" or something like that, I'd like to keep this specific to this AC Delco memo.
Thanks

The document you posted stated both plugs meet OEM spec, so I would assume to say there is no difference in terms of performance. Probably just a way to slowly phase out the older plug by making the new one compatible with current production and older vehicles. Not really smart business to keep numerous plugs on the shelf when one will satisfy all requirements.

The 2003 TSB was necessitated by the overwhelming warranty repairs for poor idle, especially on the Corvettes.

This new TSB has nothing to do with engine performance. ACDelco realized the iridium plugs priced themselves out of the market. They want more market share, so they introduced a new, cheaper plug.

Considering that MOST people never change their plugs and AC Delco has the assembly line corner of the market, do you think that really is the case? The two plugs are pretty close to the same price and both are about the same as the popular plug here.

Did you not read the document in the links?
