Arrow 98 vs 99 Computer

I have a 98 Z28 and my buddy was telling me that my computer sucks compared to the 99 and up computers. My questions are.. is this true, if so why? Is it worth my putting a newer computer in my car, and if it is what all is involved in the swap? Is it as easy as unplugging one and plugging in the other? Thanks for any info!

Many would agree w/ your friend in that the 99 is easier to tune. No, it's not worth switching. I use a 98 & the 98, (97) PCM's are the only PCM's that don't require a separate EFI Live license to tune. The 98 requires interpolation to fill in the blanks on the fueling tables & a few other things. So, it's a PITA for guys who tune for a living to tune the 98.

If you swap, the 99 uses a 3 wire coolant temp switch where the 98 uses a 2 wire. I think some of the pin outs differ, as well.

To use a 99+ PCM in a 98 a lot of the pins need to be moved. I did it to mine took many many hrs to do but it's worth it in the end if you really plan on modifying and using boost. Also need to put a fuel segment from a van and copy setting from your old PCM into the newer PCM.

Reasoning is for me you can run custom operating systems. So I can run a 3 bar map and stuff.

If you plan on a max effort heads/cam, stroker, or boosted application then I would suggest a 99+ computer. I'm re-pinning my harness on my '98 TA as we speak to put an '02 computer in it.

I will take the 98 PCM if you decide to go w/ the 99. Just send me a PM.
