Default FTP 104 fits really tight

Do you leave the tray in the lower air box or remove it? With the SLP filter and the FTP 104 it's super tight to even install into the tabs.

I'm worried the flimsy plastic is going to fail as it's under stress. But it seems way too loose without the tray installed and doesn't seem like it would seal...

Any suggestions?

Tray stays in, I ran it with a K+N for quite a while and it ended up cracking vertically around the base (6 months and maybe 250 miles). The hood may have hit it I really can't be 100% for sure. FTP warrantied it though (good customer service) and I got a clear lid second time around and adjusted the hood up and so far so good.

Great...

Yeah, it looks like the hood is clearing it fine. The WS6 hood has a ton of clearance there.

It just seems like it's under a lot of stress when everything is installed. I even trimmed back Fernco sewer hose that connects the MAF to the TB to try and take any stress off the tabs/metal release things.

Coming from an SLP lid, the ftp felt like notebook paper. However, they have the market basically cornered and from what I understand injection molding plastic isn't cheap so what can you do. In proper context though, bending an SLP would make me think it would crack, the ftp not so much. Its much more springy in that respect. So, it may not be such a bad thing.

Do you have the clear FTP lid or the black one? I haven't had any problems with my clear one sealing on my Trans Am. It fits just fine. Though mine does make contact on my WS9 hood. I have the Ram Air lower base on mine as well. The clear ones have a little more flex to them. Feels kind of like Tupperware.

A 3" hose really isn't going to matter if it's rubber or silicone on an NA set up. The space between the TSP Maf and TB is very close.

Fernco isnt the way to attach anything to a car. Esp with what little flex the thick rubber wall has on it. We are well aware of the distance between the maf and the TB and the Lid. If the maf tube is too long, itll create alignment issues also.

If they have stock (severely) worn rubber motor mount bushings and an improperly trimmed hose then I could see that happening. On an engine with good bushings it shouldn't matter. You will have to cut the hose at an angle for it to mate up properly. Sometimes you have to do what you can to get by until you can get the right part. I only did a silicone hose on mine for aesthetics.

That is why you should not use fernco. That is my point. There is no need for silicone either as there are correct sized parts out there in rubber even. Alot of those hi-temp silicone couplers wont flex either. Even with poly mounts, the motor will torque over some and even move fore and aft. That is what the mounts are also for.

So does the FTP lid sit higher than other aftermarket lids? Still trying to figure out if it will fit or if my hood will just break it? Other aftermarket ones rub but I can still shut the hood

My SLP lid fits like absolute garbage... its fastened down on the front and none of the 4 tabs at the back even go into the slots...

I also trimmed the bellows a bunch too..

I have a Blackwing lid on the way so hopefully that fits better

My Mti was a strong very thick lie that fit well but rubbed the hood, anything bigger than that will probably cause the good not to close

The 104 will as there is quite a bit more volume built up in the obvious hump. They do fit pretty tight on the outside as well, but I have not had too much issue with the tabs on the back lining up and the lip on the front likes to stick over instead of inside the groove.

Spectre has some flex(accordion style) couplers that might be an option.

One thing... I have a 2.5" BeCool radiator, so the lower airbox/radiator shroud is actually flexed upwards a bit. So the alignment is pretty far off from the TB. The 4" Silicone coupler that came with the TSP 100mm MAF was like 1.5" too short on the bottom (but fine on top).

I have new Poly motor mounts. Even without any kind of coupler, the FTP fits like bitch. I'm running the SLP Blackwing filter vs the K&N and don't know if that makes a difference.

I have fit a 104mm lid to an ls7 maf and a 102nw/102fast with the be cool rad. The shroud will take just a bit of trimming on the back but that is all. We have all the couplers and elbows to make it work.

Link to that? I didn't have to trim. It fits... it just flexes the shroud back a bit and rubs the bottom of the MAF. But if I install the lid/MAF/coupler together it fits fine.
