what is this... lol please help

I was looking at catch can installs...and it looks in almost all the pics there isnt one of these and they are using that bolt to hold there cans on?...are these removed or what...

EGR valve... emissions thing.. you can get rid of it but a CEL will be lit up unless you get it tuned out
