4" exhaust with factory style muffler
I really like the way my Hooker Aerochamber sounds, but am looking at either 3"true duals, or possibly the single 4"from the y back. I am wondering if if it can be done, or would even be worth it to run a 4"back and then tie into the aerochamber I have now. It is setup just like the factory muffler would be, with what 3" in and two 3"out I believe. Thanks in advance!

A friend of mine ran the 4 inch pipe from the y-pipe back to a do right before the axel. It sounds awesome, I don't think they gained much in HP. Their main reason to run 4 inch pipe was they had it available. If you have to buy it, it will costly.

I have 1 7/8 LTs into a 3" Y pipe into a 4" I pipe with a 4" electric cut out. Then it goes into a borla type 3" exh over the axle. There are no restrictors. The muffler I have is the old Stainless Steel SS LT1 2OTL. Open or closed the sound is just amazing. I feel more tq in the mid range with it open. I think the extra flow was like 4hp on the dyno. Most of the time I have it open and closed it just seems so quiet to me. Car doesn't seem to like the cutout closed.

4" in/out oval mufflers:
Other than Magnaflow, Hooker has the Max Flow, Borla the XR-1, Dynomax the Ultra Flo Welded, QTP the AR3 mullfer. All are oval and SS($122-$203), except the Hooker which is aluminized steel($73).
There's a bunch more than this, but these are just the ones I'd chose from.

Not knocking you having a dual 3"exhaust, just that you're failing to acknowledge that a single 4" pipe flows LESS than dual 3" pipes. So if we go by what you're saying, that going from a 3" to 4" exhaust is a pure waste of money, then wouldn't going from a single 3" to dual 3" be a even bigger pure waste of money...?
