Default intake, suggestions, advice

ok, i read 27 threads from search, and the Entire sticky. but i wanna ask a few recent thoughts. wanna do intake swap. 98 camaro Z, lid and catback by slp, drag radials, and srpaying 100-150 with all the safety gear intact. obvious uprade wud be the LS6 intake. 350 or so fromt the bay, and a few here for 3 bills or so. The question is, anything in between there and a fast for 1k?
i cud live with a few hundred more, but not 1k. no real h\c plans. a4 car if it matters. street strip weekend cruiser. again i read tons of threads, looked at the typhoon, fast, lsx, ls6. what wud u do?

BBK SSI intake offers five more hp for around 500 bucks new and is aluminum which I would prefer personally for nitrous. I have one and I love it.

I'd either stick with the LS6 intake or jump to a Fast

i looked at and read some on this one, and it seems to be great, but just kinda wondered about real user results, appriciate the reply. looking to add few horses without adding this that and the other. i.e, other intakes id have to replace fuel rails throttle body etc etc.
just wanna upgrade, im sure the ls6 is the simplest, replace coolant xovers and bolt on. il keep checking here for more replys a while, always get good advice here

You could just keep an eye out for a used Fast intake. They pop up in the for sale section from time to time at a few hundred off. IIRC there was one not long ago.

yep been combing the sales here as well, since were on it, does the small fast use the stock throttle body and injectors?

Look for an old fast 90 they seem to be the cheapest I could find for the price. Basically same size as 92 but was discontinued. Don't go w metal/aluminum they look cool but I feel like GM/fasts are designed that way for a reason to lower air temps. Ls6 all day if u couldn't find a fast.

Yeah that was another thing that drew me to the BBK because it really is a simple swap and you don't have to change anything else besides the gaskets. You can choose to either keep the EGR, or use the block off plate they send you. I love the intake and would really recommend it to anybody. Zero problems at all.

You will hear people talk about "heat soak" but there is no proof behind this hypothesis and it's been dyno proven to give more power than the LS6. Dynos are done after the engine has already gotten hot and the air doesn't spend enough time in the intake for a significant heat transfer to begin before making it's way to the hot heads, chamber, etc. On the thread I read the guy gained five hp over the LS6 on his Camaro.

If not BBK I would look for a used FAST. Personally I don't think switching to an LS6 is worth it when there are better intakes out there these days.

IMO, go with the BBK unless you can get a good deal on a used FAST 92/92 that's in great condition. If you get the BBK either stick with the stock TB or get the 85 tb or larger(w/adapter).

thanks for the replies guys, im leaning towards the bbk. paying 350 for a used ls6 just seems high, at least the bbk is new, and in case of nitrous backfire it wud survive and keep my hood hole free.
when blocking off egr ports\deleting egr, codes must be tuned out im sure.

scramspeed, one of our vendors had the bbk for $426 and free shipping if you use the promo code. I think it was under sponsor sales and specials section. They were the cheapest I could find anywhere.

I had a BBK years ago. The only complaint I had was the thing was heavy. Everyone knows the LS6 is a proven intake as well as any or the FAST intakes.

Anything is better than the stock LS1 intake, it just depends on how much you want to spend.
