Default My solution to the fast 92 high idle problem

So last year I installed a fast 92/92 setup along with a new cam and heads. Car ran good and had the typical hanging idle. searched for vacuum leaks for hours on end so i went to the throttle position sensor and IAC valve. this helped but did not solve the problem. I then swapped the throttle body to a NW 92 (black anodized looks awesome) This made it more drivable. Still had a hang but only at 1500 rpm or so. I took the car out this summer and it got really bad, 3000 rpm plus. So I was pissed and I started feeling around the intake and double checking everything. The car was running and I came across the map sensor. when I touched it idle went up. It was hanging out of the hole(but in enough a propane test would not effect it). I pushed it all the way back in and started the car, revved it a few times and it popped back out. A trip to ACE and a spacer and bracket was made to hold the MAP in.

Long story short If you put a FAST on your car and you think that MAP should be clicked in there it should. just do it from the start. I spent 5+ hours on this now and it cost me 400+ extra after throttle body and all sensors. thought i would share.

Yeah, I bent a bracket out of some steel bar stock and put industrial strength velcro (soft side) under it to protect the sensor. Then a small beet of RTV for peace of mind. It's not a tight fit like on the OEM intakes without some added protection. FAST intakes are a PIA to fine tune sometimes.

You guys got any pictures of what you are talking about? I would love to see them, and I'm sure others could benefit from seeing them too.

I remember thinking when I was putting the MAP in when I was rebuilding "this does not look right, but it has to be". I wish then and there I stopped and done something like this. In the end I ended up with a kick *** throttle body and a lot of wasted time (mine and the tuner).

Wish I did. But if I remember correctly you had some idle problems with the fast 92 throttle body, which I believe your thread is why I ended up with a NW

Yes, I did. It was a Fast 90mm but there were other threads where reputable tuners were having the same problem from the 92mm.

All in all I wouldn't recommend a Fast TB to anyone.

That's what I had. Started right up and ran great with no adjustments.

It did run much better with the NW over the fast. So I will be recommending them to everyone I know.

Good deal. From what I've seen, the NW is priced under the FAST TB too. Win win.
