This is an EXTERNAL engine question.

With that many inches, you should be considering an aftermarket starter.

I'm still using a stock starter without issue. I have an aftermarket one but it won't clear the headers.

Can't remember the make of mine, I bought off a friend because it wouldn't fit his headers.

Not always. Many original starters had the "shorter bracket on one side" starter. These brackets are prone to breakage then the remaining long bolt breaks the starter mounting boss on the block. You DON'T want that.

I don't know Jake. My T/A had it. You can be sure I won't use it when I put my car back together.

Yeah, I started searching to see...

Looks like RockAuto and Amazon have a new unit from Quality-Built for $88. Part number is 6492SN.

The other option is the LS3 starter and a new pigtail that splices into the harness. My harness looks like crap, so I might go with a truck or the Quality-Built. If I ever go with a Big 3 wiring upgrade, the LS3 starter would be ideal.

ls3 is a great stock option. just know that the big black ground wire on the side of the block needs to be relocated with it. since the solenoid plug hits it on install.

LS3 starter with new pigtail. It uses two long bolts. And its smaller and lighter than the original one.

This box was holding my screen door open when I got home today.

As I'm doing an engine build, I'm gonna hang the headers on the motor while on the stand to see if there's any fitment issues.

Strange though-this starter came with non-knurled bolts. They are nice 12 pt stainless but I know knurled bolts help the starter from moving around. I'm probably gonna uses knurled bolts.
