Before I start, I'd like to say 'hi' to everybody. I'm a long-time reader posting for the first time. Anyway, back to the subject...
According to the CARB website, Hooker and Edelbrock do have CARB-certified long tube headers. But, Hooker Super Competition Headers are only certified for 1998 and Edelbrock's TES Headers are certified up to 2002. (But, when I went to Edelbrock's website, their application chart say they only have CARB-certified long tube headers for 1998-1999.) My question is: Can I use the 1998 Hooker Headers on my 2001 WS6 and still pass if a referee was to look at it?

NO!!! The only reason LT's are illegal is because they move the stock location of the cats... period!

the only issue with LT's is the visual. with cats and a good tune LT's will pass cali emissions. which is why most guys try and find a way around the vissual.

If that's the case, then why would the California Air Resources Board put an EO (Executive Order) number on the 1998 LONGTUBE headers? I've always thought that if it has a CARB number, it is legal to use.

anything that moves cats out of there original location is illegal as already stated.
go ahead and get the 98 "carb" legal headers and take it to a state run test only facilty and try and get it to pass. then come and tell us the results

I'm going back and forth from this website to CARBs website and it states in the very first paragraph that parts that have CARB EO numbers are granted an exemption to emission control system anti-tampering laws and are only allowed to specific vehicles. I guess I just answered my own question. 1998 Hooker LTs arent legal on my 2001 WS6. But they are legal for 98s only.

Plain and simple: Longtubes are illegal, especially in Cali. California Emissions are a joke and deserve to be disobeyed. Run open headers and call it a day.

i doubt the carb number says 98 only and the techs arent going to look up the carb number to see if infact its only for a designated year.

looked up the CARB board, and I don't see where it says Long Tube anywhere. Those are probably Shorties or Mid- length.
And I believe it is a Federal Law that says you can not change the location where your CATS are located. (Note: I said believe).
Hope this helps.

Hooker Super Comps are (mis)labeled long tubes on
one page of the CARB listings / exemption records.
They are not long tube headers, in the usual sense
of the term. Forget about them, unless you like
shorties, which they are (with a long tube after
they merge).
