Why take the chance of tearing up the $50 dollar filter so crap can get into your several thousand dollar motor all to save $15?

Holley has a kit of their own which I assume is very similar.

I say use the kit or go back to a paper filter. It doesn't make much if any more power than a good paper filter. If looks are your concern there is a chance household cleaners could make it look funky.

I made a thread asking the same thing. I heard it's ok to just use soap and H20.

I use the Holley cleaning kit just because their oil is sensor friendly and their cleaning solution works great. If you looking for something else you would want a engine degreaser to desolve the dirt and oil on the filter.

No that would dissipate too fast, you'll need something like Simple Green degreaser or the Fast Orange degreaser someting that will sit there and soak for 10 min. or so.
