SES Light after Header Install...

Default SES Light after Header Install...

I had my QTP headers and catted y installed a few weeks ago. My SES light was on after the install b/c there were no 02 bungs in the rear. I was told that if i put 02 sims in the rear that the SES light would go off. Well today, I had the 02 sims installed and the light is still on. Do I have to disconnect the battery or anything for it to go off? Thanks!

Yes, disconnect the battery overnight and the SES light will be off. Or I think if you just keep driving it, the SES light will go away on it's own. If it doesn't, you still have a problem.

I thought if you maintain cats, you do not need o2 simms and/or you should not get an SES light.

Excuse my IGNORANCE, but im still confused. I'm going to have Kook's LT's and their catted Y installed in a few days. I was told all I need is o2 extensions. I won't get an SES light will I? Again, don't flame me, im just trying to understand.

most after market cats although it will pass a sniffer the rear sensors still dont like them sp you can still get a light

o2 extensions allow you to plug your front o2 up (the ones in the header) because they are now farther away due to long tubes. YOu need these hooked up because they are the sensors that tell your pcm your a/f ratio. the rear o2 are behind the cats and only tell the pcm if your cats are working. they can be edited out or put a pair of sims in there

the reason the OG poster got an SES light was for the rear o2 sensors. mosts if not all aftermarket Y pipes dont have the rear o2 provisions. hence you must run o2 sims to fool the pcm into thinking there still there or you must turn off the o2 sensors with predator/edit/hp tuner.

o2 extensions are for the front o2 sensors, with LT's the o2 bung is now moved to far down and the o2's arent long enough to reach the connector. extensions "extend" the o2 sensor to be able to connect to the pin setup.

Ahhh fvck, I just read your exhaust guide. I have emissions style LT's and im keeping the AIR(2002), so now I have to do the "air check valve " mod. I thought thats the point of ordering emission style LT's, so everything will just hook up without any modifying???

the air restrictor plates are a very simple mod so its nothing to really worry about anyway.

Can I get away with driving a few miles without burning my air check valves, or is there any possibility can they be burned immediately?

seeing as how you can make them out of a coke can i dont see why you wouldnt make your own from the get go. or justs buy them from a sponsor, there pretty cheap. your not guarentteed to burn up your check vavles w/o the restrictors plates but it is something that happens.

i !air/egr when i installed my jet hots so i didnt have to worry about anything

I'm a little more than a year with no check valve issues so a few miles isn't going to hurt anything!

jrp...I went outside this morning and looked at my stock manifolds. It looks to me as though there is some type of metal AIR restrictor plates in place already from the factory.Is the stock hole drilled to big? Or am I seeing something that doesn't exist? Thanks man, you've been a big help to me.

Some y-pipes, SLP to name one, have rear 02 bungs.
As for the SES light, it kinda grows on you after a while. You seem to mind it less and less as your mod list increases.

say your ses light comes on because !AIR or no cats, or !EGR, and you want to have the code edited out. when they get rid of the code for !AIR or !EGR or no cats, will the light still come on for other things? or is the code edited out all together.

Code is edited out. Light still functions for other codes.
