Default Part# issues with Ls1 harmonic balancer.

Hi I am getting a 05 Lq4 ready to go into a Camaro with full Camaro accessories. I bought a AC delco 12553118 harmonic balancer and it is no lining up with the rest of the accessories. It is going in too far. So I ordered another one from a different supplier and it is doing the same exact thing. I have double checked the part# on the box and it is suppose to go on a Camaro/Firebird. Is my crankshaft too short or do I have Corvette harmonic balancers?

Any help here guys? I am very puzzled why it isn't lining up? Do I have the correct part#?

Well you have the correct balancer for the original F-body LS1 engine. But I think I found your problem.

Posted by jimm98LS1 in another thread in 2008. Are you sure it's a 2005 engine? Maybe in later years the crank changed again:

It came with 317 aluminum heads so I don't think it is 99-00. I am starting think there is a problem with AC Delco packaging it wrong? Also the crank seems to be flush with the rear main seal.

The issue has nothing to do with the the fact that it is an LQ4 or the crank.
The crank specs mentioned above refer to the rear of the crankshaft where the flexplate bolts up. They do not affect the front accesories.

Where did you get the alternator bracket from???

Judging by the pictures of the unit you have received, I believe you are indeed getting the wrong part.

See google images of part number 12553118

That is NOT an fbody balancer, that is a Corvette balancer. You received the wrong part.

The 12553118 is listed in the GM F-body catalog.

But you mentioned getting it from an AC-Delco supplier. Maybe AC-delco is packaging them wrong.
