Default coolant temperature sensor

I rebuilt my ls1. It's in a 99 ta. I broke the coolant temperature sensor. I replaced it with a new one from auto zone but now my gauge doesn't work. I still have to get the car tuned. I ran it till it was making good warm heat but the temp hand never moved. The fans had kicked on so it shouldn't over heat does anyone know why it wouldn't work? It worked before I rebuilt motor and replaced the sensor.

Make sure it's correct sensor (2) wire if 99 or (3) wire if (98). Make sure coolant is full. Takes a couple of heat cycles to get air out. Don't use thread sealer on temp sensor threads. It insulates the sensor from its' ground source & sensor won't work. Check connector to make sure one of the wires hasn't been pulled out slightly.

That's all I've got.
