Removing MAF ?

Removing MAF ?
OK, This is on a swap, but I don't think this is a swap type question. Its an 02 6.0L I have done the harness for stand alone, but it keeps the MAF. Can I remove the MAF somehow and not use it at all? I have been looking for an air intake/filter setup and really haven't see one that for sure keeps the MAF. They all look like there is no place for it. Plus I could use the room under the hood.
Thanks
Thanks

You can remove it, and when the computer realizes its not there will fault the part of the program and revert to SD (fueling without a MAF). To make the fault trigger consistent during each drive cycle you will want the tuner to change the way the computer sees the consistent fault, plus turn your SES light off, plus tweak the stock SD tune to make sure its just right. That would be a speed density tune.

Basically you're car now runs a hybrid fueling system, depending on conditions, it will use the MAF sensor to determine fueling or it will use the VE table (commonly referred to as speed density) or some blend of the two. MAFs are fantastic at steady airflow, meaning when your rpms are steady like cruise and idle. They don't do well during transients like wide open, or accelerating. So during steady cruise the computer really uses the MAF, when you tip in to the throttle it uses the VE table or a combination of the two. Eliminating the MAF just makes the computer read the hard coded table all the time no matter what. If its tuned right you'll never notice during your everyday driving but it will lose some precision by not having a MAF there to help.
