Default Junkyard 5.3 w/out pcm

Bought a junkyard 5.3 without the pcm. Made a deal with the guy so I can take whatever else I need from the yard to make it run. What do I need to get? Just a harness and pcm from a different truck? I tried looking it up but couldn't find anything. Thanks

Is this going to be a swap ?Try to get the original harness if you dont have it . Get the VIN # from the donor truck , this help you in matching up the correct pcm . 2003 and later trucks are dbw so you need match every thing up.

Yes it going in a 79 Camaro. I think the motor is a 99. So I should try and get a pcm from a 99 or 2000? he has a couple 2000 5.3 that are still in the trucks.

Try to get the vin # for your engine they should have a history on it even if been crushed now. Yes pcm is same you can use 99-00 truck or 99-00 F- body just make sure its LS not V6 . Do you have a good uncut harness ?

Tell us in detail what your plan is ? What combo are you going to use transmission , accessories , intake , exhaust manifolds and such. If the money is close to the same , you may better off to return that 5.3 and just get a complete pull out engine harness pcm and trans . To completely remove the harness cleanly, unplugging not cutting any thing , in the yard took me over 2 hours my first time. I could do it faster now but , you may want to take a buddy with you to help it go faster. Its easier to just leave the harness connected to the engine do your unplugs from the tranny and body and go with it. The benefit to this are many, it will save time and you know its a match . Complete pullout is the way to go if you can . when you add up buying the alternator , starter , maf and such it starts add up real quickly.

Everything is on the motor except the pcm.im gonna use a ls intake ls6 cam stock manifolds. Probably turbo it next year. Want to try and use my stock 4 speed but if the doesn't work I'm gonna buy a t56. And anything that isn't there the owner of the yard said I can come back and take. I haven't looked at it yet so I don't know if the harness is on it or not. I'll repost when I get it next week.

So you have everything, but the harness. Your going to run a LS1 intake with truck accessories ?

Yup Thats the plan anyways. I know I'm going to have to make some adjustments or use other accessories. I'm not too worried about that. I just wasn't sure about the pcm and harness working from another truck. its getting tuned anyways I just wanted to make sure the 0411 were all the same for those years
