Vengeance Racing Back to Basics - FAST Intake Comparison vs. OEM
Although we thoroughly enjoy posting about our customer's 700-1,500rwhp builds, it is time that we step back for a moment and revisit the popular topic of "Should I buy a FAST intake manifold?".
We had two customers come by in the last week for FAST manifold installs on their vehicles. The first to be highlighted is our customer's 2001 Camaro. It is a stock engine bolt-on only car that laid down 331/345 on our chassis dyno prior to any further modifications. The customer brought in a FAST 92mm LSX intake manifold and 92mm cable throttle body that he had purchased off of another individual and brought them both to us to install. Afterward, we performed a full street and dyno tune on the vehicle via EFI Live.
The end result was 358rwhp / 367rwtq, a gain of 27rwhp/22rwtq over the OEM manifold/TB!
The very next day, our good friend and customer Kris brought by his LS2 automatic C6 for a manifold swap. Kris opted for the FAST 102mm LSXR intake manifold with an OEM throttle body for now. At the time of baseline, Kris had already had us install a Vengeance Racing custom camshaft kit, Halltech Venom II intake, ARH 1 3/4" longtube header system, and a Powerbond 25% underdrive pulley. This combination netted a total of 403rwhp/400rwtq through the stock torque converter and automatic transmission.
We installed the 102mm intake manifold, reconnected his OEM throttle body and Halltech intake, made a few street tuning adjustments, and then it was back to the dyno! Within just a few hours, Kris gained a total of 23rwhp/23rwtq over baseline with a total of 426rwhp / 423rwtq after tuning was completed!
We also offer full porting services with any of our FAST intake manifolds and intake kits. Typical gains with our porting service are 7-10rwhp over an unported FAST intake. If you have any questions on FAST intake manifolds, our porting services, or any other services that we offer please feel free to contact me at any time!

The thing that bugs me about these matchups is, the
"before" is rarely tuned-to-best while the "after" always
is. Makes it hard to assign a real improvement to the
piece alone.

Those are nice gains, but I got to agree with jimmyblue on this. The gains are misleading because a unknown part of that gain was from the tune. They should have dynoed it before the tune also, then you'd be able to see what the tune and FAST-102 intake manifold gains truly are!

I can give some input then on the tuning...I did an LS6 longblock swap (w/LS6 intake) and had Vengeance do the tune. I then added a FAST 92/Nick Williams 92 and had Vengeance re-do my tune. I picked up 15 RWHP with the FAST 92/NW92. So I was "tuned" before the intake swap and then obviously "re-tuned" after the swap. It wasn't back to back before and after, but it is a same tuner, same dyno comparison, so it shouldn't be that far off...

To clear up any confusion:
The Corvette was previously modified by Vengeance Racing as well as tuned here in house. The baseline run was identical to his previous graph, and the only tuning change was for the 102mm.
The Camaro was tuned by a prior shop, but it was not in our plans to use the car as a "test vehicle" for FAST intake gains. We have been using these manifolds for several years, and the numbers are out there everywhere for people to see. We simply saw a great gain over his baseline and decided that we would revisit this modification here.

Actually, I would think you would see MORE on an ls1 if it still has the ls1 intake and then step up the FAST. I went from an ls6 intake to FAST, but the ls6 intake picks up HP/TQ over the ls1 intake too. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 20-25 RWHP increase going from an ls1 intake to a FAST intake on a bolt-ons ls1...
