This probably isn't the "CORRECT" tool...but it has always worked for me...
About 12 bucks...

that one looks nice but really limits you to only the ls1 balancers. pretty pricey for limited use
I use the push-rod style.. the long push rod goes in the snout and you wont mess up the crank threads or have to mess with a bolt to push on like the pointed screw style

they also have the hex on the puller body so a wrench can hold it steady while a ratchet drives the screw. more stable

I always use these on the the snout of the crank with my 3 jaw pullers. Never had any problems. https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...01.8t0Xf62A5M8

I own this kit as well as a few different sizes of two and three arm pulley pullers. I can pull any balancer, pulley or beer cap. The kit has the slug that covers the end of the crank to push on.
The stock balancers can easily be removed by a three arm pulley puller with the right slug.
All aftermarket balancers have three threaded holes to pull on.
