Default loudmouth or tru duals dumped

Current setup is long tube and off road y Into Flowmaster catback. I'm going in for cam and fast 92 intake n TB install in 2 week, so do I spend money on a better cat back or ditch the whole Y pipe and get the Texas speed true dual set up.

Are you looking for more power with the exhaust change or a different sound?

I have the best of both worlds; true duals dumped with LM1 Loudmouth Resonators.

Be aware that your exhaust will get noticeably louder with just a larger aftermarket cam, unless the cam is very small with a lot of negative overlap. I'd wait until after you've driven the a some with the new cam, then make a decision.

Imo, the FM cat-back only flaw is the muffler. Change the muffler for a higher flowing one and you have a better cat-back.

Mainly the sound, ima streetbike guy so I like loud. But the car is lowered as well so I'm a bit worried about clearance e as well

My car is lowered the the eibach pro kit and I have true duals dumped, roughly 4-5 inches of clearance under the lowest part. No problems scraping on anything yet.

I'd stick with a cat-back that follows the stock exhaust pipe route if you're concerned with ground clearance, since you'll most likely lose ground clearance with a dumped true dual exhaust.

We need a thread where someone can actually measure the sound with a db meter. TD dumped get annoying inside the car at times.

Touche. Actually, my hearing is pretty good. Wife may not agree with me on that.

I've gone through numerous cat-backs, and personally liked the Hooker setup the best. I recently swapped to TD's with the TSP rumblers and sounds so wicked now. Its loud as hell, but it my weekend toy.

FYI a good little db meter for the price (under$40) is the Triplett TSC-MC1, which covers a SPL DB range of 40 to 130 dB SPL, and frequency range from 31.5 Hz to 8 KHz. Which should be plenty good for check how loud different exhaust are at idle and part throttle. So basically you'd need a bunch of people all using the same DB/SPL meter, and distance from the vehicle and position would need to be fairly close to the same, and all vehicles should be parked in a very similar location.

Here's an example(my car):

vehicle info:
99 Z28 Camaro with 227/230 11llsa cam , 950rpm idle, with LT header , ory-pipe mufflex 3.5" cat back with Magnaflow 3.5" in/out race muffler.

Car parked in wide open parking lot, or maybe backed out of the garage. There's a difference since the sound is more likely to be louder when there's more structures (fences, houses, vehicles) for sound to reflect/bounce off of and combine making it louder.

Here's mine I just did with the both windows all the way down.

Drive way, at idle, 99db, meter at steering wheel.
Drive way, at idle, 95db, 10ft from driver side door.
Drive way , at idle, 95db, 10ft directly behind car.

Stop/Go traffic, 950-2800 rpm range, 100-107db, meter at steering wheel.

Open road, 950-6500 rpm WOT, 111db, meter at steering wheel.

Imo for it being cammed with a ORY-pipe it very easy to live with(not too loud), but it's still loud compared to a stock cam car with stock cats dumped with a small bullet muffler before the rearend.

I really like my slp power flo catback with the catless headers. I had a corsa which sounded great stock, but once the cam and catless lt's went on the corsa was all raspy and sounded like ****. The loudmouth will be even louder and even more raspy esp when you add a cam and catless y pipe.
Just my .02, the power flo has no rasp and sounds great. Nice deep tone.

Is it your daily driver? This is basically the setup I want to do, but its my only car. I don't care about noise for my own reasons, I'm just worried about police. I'm assuming, with a cam, I'd be asking to get pulled over with that setup?

Does anybody have experience with duals brought out the back in terms of street driving? Is it more tame overall or does it just help reduce cabin noise?
