Default Aftermarket Starter that will Clear ARH 1 7/8" Headers !

Going to 4.125" stroke and close to 12.0:1 CR and it is time to upgrade the starter.

Read that MSD starter has fitment issues with ARH 1 7/8"

Any other options ?

I can tell you from expereince no aftermarket starter will clear. The stock starter though will handle that no problem the ls7 is 11:1 stock and uses the same style starter.. Lots of people here run over 12:1 with the stock piece as well

Thanks redbird555.

Ok just if I have to come to replace it, do I need to go with ls1 starter or truck 6.0 starter. I heard that they are better. Any fitment issues with those as well with ARH ?

The truck starter and a new ls1 start you order will be the same they changed the design after a certain point to a more beefy style mounting bracket. You can use an ls3 starter which is actually even smaller in size but still just as strong. You will though need to relocate the ground strap that is bolted to the block (no big deal) and splice in an ls3 plug connector for the strater solenoid as the ls1 is a screw on connector

Stock starters fiit fine but they are still a tighter fit with arh headers due to them hugging the block so close but its not a big problem.

They're the same starter. Its just the newest gm design. Its a tad shorter and instead of using a stud with a nut on the solenoid it uses a plug. So you have to order the plug pigatail and splice it in the harness. Also on mine the ground strap that mounts to the block hit the ls3 solenoid because its further forward so I had to move it but my buddies car didnt have an issue. so fwiw take that into consideration.

HUH. Brilliant idea! We old timers have been using aftermarket kits that put a plug on the starter to make wiring easier.
