Default grotyohann rusted headers

Hey guys

I built my 1999 SS originally back in 2000. My headers are Grotoyhann 1 3/4 tube, 3 " collectors. Back then these were the only longtube headers for LS1 Fbody and they weren't stainless. Mine are coat but rusted. I haven't looked real good yet, but lets say they need replacing. I have Grotyohann's 3" y-pipe into a SLP DD. Last fall when I put the car into storage, I noticed a ticking noise, I am wondering if it might be due to rusted headers. Are any of the currently available headers the same desin as mine?

I haven't seen a set in years. A new y pipe may be needed as well. If memory serves, they were a fairly unique design.

Not really the Grots were the first header design and were then adapted by pacesetter Kooks, Tsp, Speed engineering etc. There were minor tweaks but they should still be pretty close to bolting up to his y pipe.

With that said op what would be your budget for new headers? These from speed eng are good quality and come with a y pipe. Everything is stainless so you'll never need another set. And the 1-7/8 will pick up some power as well.

I don't really see the need of $1000 headers anymore, although the Kooks complete header-true dual is sweet. My Grots have ZERO fitment issues, no motor mount problems at all. I went with a Lakewood tunnel brace since the 3 inch ypipe had issues with OEM tunnel brace. When I put the car in the garage last fall, I had a ticking noise...I am thinking it maybe the headers...should be interesting to diagnose, shortblock and car have 31,000; I have only put about 6000 on it since 2002.

The ticking sound could be a header leak, but it could also be something else. There's a lot of nice stainless headers out now. Anything from Ebay to Kooks. All depends on what you wanna spend.
