Default Removed HVAC want to retain defrost

Mods can move this if it's in the wrong section.

I pulled the entire hvac box out from under the dash last night. However I need to keep the defrost to pass inspection. I was looking at the mojave heaters but I was wondering if I could use the heater core and blower motor from the box and mount it under the center vent and save some money. Anyone tried this?

Do you have a problem with running just the heat side of the OEM heater box with coolant lines or are you trying to get rid of it all ?

Trying to ditch it all. The only reason to keep the defrost is for inspection. I couldn't tell you the last time I used any of the hvac stuff, and I'm trying to make one last push to get the car to run a 9 second pass so I'm shedding any weight I can in addition to the new mods

My thought was to mount the coil to the firewall and a fan under it. Truthfully it just needs to blow air through the defrost vent. It's not like they check for temperature.

If that's all you need to do is blow air I think your idea of mounting a small fan under the dash will do just fine. With all the duct work out of the dash you'll have plenty of room in there.

If all you need is a 12V fan, get a $20 bilge blower hook it to your ducts.

Pretty sure Studderin did this setup on his car. He mounted the OEM fan on a Ford Excort or Probe heater core and make a bracket to hang it under the dash's defrost vent. Then he ran coolant lines to it, says it works well. This is the route I will be taking as well considering our humidity level here is retarded high and the glass fogs up quite often.

Yhup. Vehicle specific related, not external engine.
