Default how many have broken a header bolt?

I KNOW you can't predict the future yada yada.. just curious how many have installed headers and had issues with the bolts breaking off? I have longtubes from texas speed and my friend has a lift so that should make install a lot easier. I was quoted 500 to put them on and 500 would be really nice to save plus we put on the suspension a month or so ago and I really enjoyed working on the car myself instead of paying someone.

I Didn't have issues with broken bolts but its a good idea to soak them in PB blaster the day before you go to do your install. Also another thing that I found to make the install nice was using ARP header studs instead of header bolts. A little expensive but make install easy and look very nice.

Trucks seem to break manifold bolts like nobody's business. Even with AL heads. Plan on a head swap or some cursing while you drill out at least one broken bolt. Couldn't hurt to have cobalt drill bits on standby.

We get heads in to port with broken manifold bolts in them on a regular occasion. Pretty much all of the ones we see are all from older cars and trucks. It is something to be concerned about but if you take care and soak them with a good penetrating oil you should not have any issues.

Thanks
Derek

alright I'll probably just save up the extra cash and have the shop do it, sounds like risk is not worth the reward

Make sure your header bolts do not bottom out in the heads.

I broke one when reinstalling. I was using some allen-head bolts, stainless, that I found that would fit. Problem was, I didn't use a washer and the allen head got caught sideways in the header, and while torquing it, it snapped off.

soak them in pb or wd40 several days before the install. the heating and cooling when you drive will help the oil soak in. my friend did it on his 4 days before. they all came out fine. i did it to my lt1 camaro and one bolt broke. i also heard if you tighten the bolt a bit before you loosen it, it breaks the rust seal and they come out easier. also try not to use a deep socket if you can. the longer socket torques sideways alittle that can snap the bolt.

This is a lot better than PB Blaster, at least the new formula....

I replace all my stock bolts with ARP bolts right away, studs are too expensive for me. Also install with anti-seize. Haven't broke an ARP bolt yet.
