Why don't people do this to their cars?

Why don't people do this to their cars?
When people start talking about dual exhaust the first problem that seems to pop up is where to fit the mufflers. So my question is this. Why hasn't anyone thought of using an aftermarket muffler made for a Buick Grand National. The GN's had dual exhaust that ran back over the axel and into one mufler that had two in ports and two exit ports. Why aren't more people going this?

ive always read that duals over the axle were real expensive especially if you try to get one pipe over the driver side. also, if you try and get both over the passenger side there isnt much room for more than 2.5" duals which isnt really worth the trouble as far as flow over a single 3 inch.

I had them go under. Great clearance, band clamped together for easy removal, and room for my flowmaster! It has really been a great setup (nobanging etc). Just buy an x pipe kit and some hardware and have it fabbed up, see my site fer pics!

I'm postive about the GN exhaust. They ran duals all the way back to the muffler. Check out this diagram of the exhaust from flowmasters website
http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/pd...ries.pdf?28,14 The part number 42585 is a direct replacement for a GN. Note the goofy in and locations compared to part number 42582. I know everyone on this board hates flowmaster but I wonder what the GN crowd is running as their muffler of choice. I may talk to my local exhaust shop and see if they could fab something up using this style muffler.

Im gonna try something similar with a magnaflow muffler. It has 2 i/o pipes that are 2.5" with a built in xpipe in the muffler. The muffler is 4x9x14". It looks like there is enough room under the rear passenger seat for ok clearance. I am hoping this will get rid of some of the rasp from the macs and ory.

Two 2.5" pipes flow way more than one 3"...
Two 2" pipes flow nearly equal to one 3".
Off topic, but I will say anyway...
A pinch bent 3" pipe flows less than a mandrel bent 2.5".
So whenever you do pipes, make sure they are mandrel bent. This usually means buying the bends and welding them together into a usable shape. Mandrel bending machines are expensive and usually only found in factories that make exhaust parts or headers. Your local muffler shop will not have one, even if they say they do!

When I get a chance I will take some pics and put them up on the net. Magnaflow coulda done a better job makin this muffler. The muffler has some lips internally that need to be ground down. Youll see what I mean with the pics.
