Default Moving engine forward 1".... Will I notice?

Currently my LQ4 sits with about 3/4" clearance between the passenger side head and firewall. I have Dirty Dingo slider mounts, so have some flexibility.
Problem currently is that the column shift rod hits the drivers side exhaust manifold.
If I moved the engine forward 3/4- 1", would I notice any adverse handling or any other issues? Not auto crossing the car ever, just weekend warrior.....

Probably not. I placed my engine for maximum header clearance. Sounds like you have no choice but to clear the shift mechanism unless you want to convert to a floor shift.

Most Chevelle guys place their engines against the firewall like you describe...I moved mine forward enough I can get bell housing bolts off. This puts it in about the same place as a sbc.

I do autox mine and it's still better than it was with an iron block.

Keep in mind you might need adjustments to crossmember and a longer driveshaft

This is a new setup, so no drive shaft yet, and no trans cross member until the final placement is decided. I have tracked down a few different manifold designs to try, so fingers crossed. If not, may have to sneak it ahead a little.

I tracked down a late 90's Fbody stainless manifold that will work perfect and just clears the column shift rod.
KB racing turbo manifold just clears with the hood closed, so that is good news as well!

The only way you will notice moving it forward is if your front tires are very sticky and your suspension is optimized for autocross or a road course and works pretty well to begin with.

If you have skinnies on the front, no way you will notice.

If you have drag tires on the rear, no way you will notice.

If you are not running sway bars, no way you will notice.

If you are running spring rates for drag racing, no way you will notice.

Fair enough!
No skinnies, no front sway bar,90/10 drags on the front, big sway bar and 50/50's in the back. 325/50 DR's
