Moving engine forward 1".... Will I notice?
Currently my LQ4 sits with about 3/4" clearance between the passenger side head and firewall. I have Dirty Dingo slider mounts, so have some flexibility.
Problem currently is that the column shift rod hits the drivers side exhaust manifold.
If I moved the engine forward 3/4- 1", would I notice any adverse handling or any other issues? Not auto crossing the car ever, just weekend warrior.....

Most Chevelle guys place their engines against the firewall like you describe...I moved mine forward enough I can get bell housing bolts off. This puts it in about the same place as a sbc.
I do autox mine and it's still better than it was with an iron block.
Keep in mind you might need adjustments to crossmember and a longer driveshaft

The only way you will notice moving it forward is if your front tires are very sticky and your suspension is optimized for autocross or a road course and works pretty well to begin with.
If you have skinnies on the front, no way you will notice.
If you have drag tires on the rear, no way you will notice.
If you are not running sway bars, no way you will notice.
If you are running spring rates for drag racing, no way you will notice.
