Default DMH cutout problems

I've got a new (used for 2 weeks) 4" cutout that we noticed was leaking. I opened it and climbed under the car to find the o ring that seals the flap is pulled out of the groove and won't stay there. Anybody had this happen? I thought about taking some high temp rtv and glueing it down.

The cutouts I've had in my hands, seemed to be RTV-in-groove.
So not a terrible idea, provided that the RTV wants to stick.
If the cutout is far enough back a better adhesive might
be the ticket, to keep the O-ring (if it's a proper O-ring and
not a ring of RTV that just gave up...). Something like the
polyurethane windshield adhesive, or 3M marine 4200. With
a bit of attention to surface prep, those won't let go for
anything. Although silicone would be hard to grab, and
the O-ring material type is unstated.
