Default To keep or not to keep my cats

One of my magna flow high flow cats has something loose on the inside and raddles. I can put my factory cats back on or put in straight pipes. I have a lid, potz tb, ati ud pulley, shorty headers and bassani daul exhaust. I also plan on adding a ls6 or bbk intake manifold this winter with a tune to follow. I did do lots of searching and some say do it and others say no and they feel like they lost power. Also will doing this make my exhaust a lot louder?

Now that my car is 15 years no I don't have to pass smog anymore and it's my weekend ride so the gas smell is not the biggest deal. Will I pick up any power and what about exhaust sound.

In general I would say you will pick up a little power. However, the cats act as a resonator of sorts. If you straight pipe them out, the exhaust can get raspy. I put a chatted Y in specifically to avoid the rasp

You won't notice any power gain at all, if it's rattling then yes I would fix it/delete it with a straight pipe.. Performance wise, there's little to be had

Have you considered longtube headers?

Sell those shorties and pick up a set of longtubes, might be cheaper than having to pay a shop to weld in straight pipes..

You will gain some power by removing them, but probably nothing significant. You don't ever lose power by removing them, assuming all else equal.

You will notice an increase in sound, but rasp shouldn't be a problem as you mentioned already having true duals.

Personally, I would remove them if you don't need them for emissions. The smell doesn't bother me, I'm used to it with my older cars, and the sound is much improved when you have true duals. With a Y-pipe, I might reconsider depending on muffler selection as it can get a bit raspy.

Huron speed sells xs power header systems. I purchased one with the off road x pipes. The gas smell is intense if you put your ac or heat on. I'm with the other peeps. Ditch the shorties.
