Default Better factory exhaust manifold?

I have a 96 Z28 with a rear mount turbo setup and I'm going to swap the lt1 for a 5.3, my question is are there any better factory manifolds that will fit a 4th gen? I'm keeping it rear mounted so manifolds are a must.

The 1998 & 1999 exhaust manifolds were better, more tubular in design.

LS7 exhaust manifolds were the best that have ever been designed by GM

Would they fit an F-body?

I thought the Z-28 got the best OEM manifolds, OEM part #19302762

Compared to LS7 manifolds:

Might be a tossup though as I think the power ratings are the same.

Yes, z28s would be awesome but they are essentially headers. I'm thinking more like truck or ls3, but it doesn't look like anyone has tried them in a 4th gen...

I'm pretty sure they will, but it's going to be a custom Y pipe with them. It is a THREE inch outlet after all...

These manifolds are for the CURRENT 5th gen Camaro. I doubt they'll fit on a 4th gen F-body. They are the manifolds used on the LS7 engine Z28 and can be had as a kit to upgrade your 5th gen V8 Camaro: http://paceperformance.com/i-1885589...ifold-kit.html

As the drive train for 4th gen F-body cars were pretty much identical throughout the various models, a Z28 Camaro would not get a "better" exhaust manifold than a Trans Am or SS car.

The 98~99 V8 F-body cars got stainless steel manifolds that were a bit more tubular than the later cast iron manifolds.

My Firebird catalog lists the following numbers:

98/99: L 12560194 R 12560193
00: L 12559507 R 12559506
01/02: L not listed R 12587706

I think there is a chance these may work . Maybe some one will try , the tricky part is the right side.

At almost $900.00 a set, then working things to make them fit, then custom head pipes, I can't see why anybody would choose them over better flowing long tubes.

While the overwhelming majority would agree, the OP said retaining manifolds were a must. I think it would be worth him looking into at least.

Yes as a rear mount turbo, I have need to keep manifolds for the heat. Even though long tubes flow better, it will kill my spool. Z28 manifolds would rock but they are not cast and I think they will also sacrifice some spool. I have a set of truck non egr manifolds too try already, but didnt know if anyone had tried ls3 or any of the vette stuff. Obviously the high HP factory cars should have better flowing exhaust manifolds.

what about long tubes that were coated inside and out with ceramic? They would hold in the heat

I think the 2000 and up manifolds would be for you then.

Will the aftermarket cast stainless manifolds fit the 4th Gen? Tru-Ram and hooker come to mind. The hooker manifolds are offered in multiple different coatings, as well.

The Tru-Ram manifolds do look nice.
