Default Removing coils for header install

Am I missing something? I was able to disconnect the coils from the coil pack and remove the coil pack, but I can't get them off the block/plugs. My understanding they just slide off and on and just need to be yanked off? I can't get my old manifolds off without removing the coil or is there some trick?

Like ramairetransam said, there are 5 studs that hold the coil brackets to the valve covers. All you should have to do is unplug the main coil pack harness, pull the spark plug wires off the coils, and remove the 5 studs that mount the bracket and the they should come off as an assembly.

I see early morning has me using the wrong words. What I meant removing the wires from the plugs. I disconnected the wires from the coil pack and was able to get the coil pack off and now I have my spark plug wires preventing the exhaust manifold from sliding off. Am I just supposed to yank the wires off the plug like I yanked them off the coil pack?

If the wires haven't been removed for a while they could be on there pretty good. The best way I have found to get them off is to wiggle and pull and they will come just be careful not to smash your fingers/hands against everything.

Ok thank you! I will have to give it another go. I felt I was giving it quite a tug but they wouldn't budge. I just wanted to make sure I don't mess them up. The metal shield stays on the car? Or does it come off with the wire

The metal heat shield will come off with the spark plug wire. Make sure to grab the plug by the heat shield when you are pulling them off as this will ensure you don't break any of the wires.

Sometimes the metal heat shield will break the wire and come off leaving the boot on the plug. You can count on damaging at least one plug wire and probably more. Plan on replacing the wires with a new set of wires and be done with it. Makes it much easier then, just rip the wires out and move on.

ripped a couple of stock plug wires when I did my headers.... Might as well get some MSD wires to replace the stock ones.

MSD wires are junk. Buy a set of oem takeoffs on ebay or Firecore50 best wires on the market.

Seems like a lot of folks here like MSD wires. If you're going to declare them junk you should explain exactly what it is that makes you think they are substandard. I'm not one to take another person's word on an item with so little information. A little clarification would help.

I've read alot of dislike for MSD wires, but I still bought two sets......my first set was great.....when I changed plugs and went to replace them with a new set, the second box of MSD's had two wires that wouldn't attach.....I tried everything to get them to "click" on....they were useless......I ended up using six of the new ones and two old ones until I could replace them all with AC Delco wires...my .02.....I won't buy them again

Exactly they don't snap on the plug like they should. The boots don't handle any heat. Not the MSD products of 10 years ago. Imported parts assembled in the USA is the problem.

Once you use a quality set of wires you will realize how bad they are.

Now that Holley owns them I they will fix the quality issues that they have with almost everything they sell.
