Default Muffler suggestions

I have a 1998 Z28 with the stock exhaust system and I need to replace the muffler. You can see my upgrades below, i rebuilt the motor to a 400+ HP 04 Z06 motor. I'm looking for an inexpensive muffler similar to stock in sound because this is my wife's daily driver since I bought the Vette. I'm looking to just swap out the muffler but I don't want to restrict my added HP. Any ideas would be Great.

magnaflow looks interesting, this would be close to stock so I can pass inspection?
also I was on ebay looking at an OBX stainless steel catback, anybody here tried these?

Magnaflow is the closest thing to stock without restricting hp you're going to get. It sounds slightly, and I mean slightly, louder than stock. I actually removed my magnaflow and replaced with the SLP for this reason. But it is a very high quality catback system.

And yes you will pass inspection with the catback. Using the off road Y pipe will not pass inspection.

I cant speak for the OBX, never tried it.

The slp dual dual or even the totl muffler would be great in your application. As mentioned the magnaflow is great option. Pypes race pro is another good choice.

Hello,
Just installed a Borla XS and I'm extremely happy with all aspects of this muffler. For a daily driver around town its great. Zero restrictions on HP, much better than stock. It sounds great, won't wake the neighbors. When you get on it you know its there. Long trips and the stereo at normal volumes will be no problems at all. Best of all, the wife won't come home with a headache, and that's a good thing!!! As you can see, I'm sold!!!

Thanx guys. Magnaflow is what it most likely be. Funds are an issue so I will not be spending $1,000 on an exhaust catback for a $4,000 car lol. I'm really looking hard at the ebay OBX catback for $353 shipped, I've read good reviews on this system on the Corvette and Gen V Camaro.

OK So speaking to the Magnaflow muffler. I was under my car taking some measurements and the original muffler is 27" long and the Magnaflow is 18" , this is the body measurement. The Mag will be 9" too short to meet up to my existing exhaust pipes does this soumd right? and if so how do I do this?

In a recent thread around here somewhere, the results from some magazine article test were posted. The borla xs ranked #4 in overall power, of the like 10 mufflers tested, and #1 in noise reduction. It is what I will be using.

Doubt it's a direct fit replacement, though. Still something to consider.
