Default Ls Engine installation in a Kappa, A/C Issue

I am using C5 corvette accessories. There is a fitment problem with the a/c compressor. I can either clearance a chassis bracket or modify the OEM a/c bracket. I am exploring the possibility of milling off some of the a/c bracket in order to move the compressor 1/2 inch closer to the motor.

In order to accomplish this I have to get rid of the "arm" that holds the idler pulley. Seem like if a shorter belt is used, the idler pulley could be eliminated.

Wondering if this idea has a chance to work? Any help or comments would be appreciated.
