Default T56 5.3 Compatibility

I'm about to sell my sport bike and dive into the LS world after many months of consideration/research.

I found a solid 5.3l for a good price and I want to put it in my 91 rx7; the car is a manual and I want to keep it that way. I have read that a t56 bolts right up to a 5.3, yet I've also read it requires a LS1 flywheel? So which is it? I want to know what I'm getting into before I buy this thing tonight. Thanks in advance for the help

It does indeed bolt up and it also requires a flywheel. Many people buy a "ls7" clutch if the engine isn't making crazy power. I just bought a LUK ls7 clutch with flywheel included for $365 through amazon including shipping.

That's not true. The engine doesn't care what transmission is behind it. Any 98 and up t56 except for a corvette t56 will bolt up to a lq4 or 9.

really? I remember finding a number of ppl on here via search who reported issues with excess material on the crank that prevented the t56 from mating to older lq4/lq9? i stand corrected

The iron headed earlier 6.0s had a longer crank that only worked with an auto trans.
You'll need an LS1,2,6,or 7 flywheel, clutch. And a 98-02 f body pilot bearing.

1999-2000 LQ4 has the longer crank and won't work with the T56. I think they also had iron heads.
