Default New Factory converter question

I am changing my 2000 SS LS1 A4 3.42axle cars cam to a mild Crane grind 551 lift intake and exhaust and 210/218 dur@50 respectively. I have a new in box Trailblazer 5.3L converter for the 4L60E labeled as high stall...I was told the factory stall in my car is well under 1500..and that the new converter will put the stall above 2100-2200..thats really all I need since I will lose a bit of low end with the cam and theoretically 2200 will let the engine jump from the hole right above the advertised low end of 1600rpm for the new cam....Am I on the money with my theories here or will I be disappointed? just looking for the car to jump hard out of the hole and the cam pull hard from the start without a soft or boggy take off ...your thoughts guys..this is my daily driver that I just want to humiliate some of the Nagasaki nutbuckets out there with the annoying crap can mufflers

Imo I would go ahead and get a bigger stall. Give FTI a call and tell them your plans. They will be able spec you a converter that WILL put a smile on your face when you smash the throttle.

No sense in doing all that work to be disappointed imo

I would also use a bigger cam as well

My thoughts are you wont even notice the difference in it from the stock verter. if your looking for the car to jump hard grab a 3600+ Yank,Circle D,etc (especially seeing your cam'd). A stall is one area you don't want to go cheap on.

Just go ahead and get a 3200+ if you're going to go through the trouble of changing it, might as well. You'll end up wishing you'd gone bigger later like the rest of us. Why so small on the cam? Granted bigger isn't always better but that's tiny and not worth the trouble IMO. I would imagine your reluctancy to go bigger is because your worried about drivability, but it's nothing a good tune can't do for you.

A 224 cam sounds like it'd be sweet for you.

You start getting over 3000 stall and then you gonna start blowing tires off from a dig unless you running on sticky tires

I'm just looking to do a basic rebuild with a hair of spice up thru tiny tweaks here and there...this car is going to have to be a daily driver with major commuting miles,,,I do want it to stay docile but with a tad of extra oomph and couple hundred rpm higher redline with no chance of hurting anything and very minimal if any tuning required...I have a Hypertech and am going with the 180 degree thermostat 93 octane only selection....I have a set of 3.73s in a box but I think that would be a waste with barely any difference over the 3.42s

With any converter swap you're going to need a tune along with a trans cooler, doesn't matter if it's a 2800 or 4000. Like I said a 3000 sounds nice for you. The difference will be noticeable down low in city driving but on the highway the converter will lock up and it'll drive like normal. I personally wouldn't bother with that particular gear swap just my .02
