3400 TCI stall, what gears to go with?
Was wondering what would be the best gear ratio to put on a car that has a 228r cam and a 3400 stall?

Unless you have the suspension and tires to lift the
front wheels I see no value in going past 3.42s (the
virtue there being, cheap & plentiful as the M6 guys
all move up eventually). Going from 3.23s to 3.42s
netted me zilch, only made losing traction 5% easier.
And you pay for it on the highway full time.
My advice is to get to know the converter / motor
combo first and then decide if you really will benefit
in any way. One such case might be, if you're looking
to trap at the very top of 3rd (A4) and your 3.23s
are finishing at 5000RPM and you'd shave a tenth by
finishing at 5300RPM (3.42) or 5800RPM (3.73s). You
need at least one pass to make that call (because if
you're finishing at 6000RPM now, going up in gear
ratio would perhaps be worse instead of better). And
this all presumes that you're all about bracket racing
or straight up timesheet more than daily driver etc.

a lot of people are scared of big stalls and higher gear ratios so they just throw more money and power into and sometimes get very little out of it but it is to each his own and what do you want to do with the car and how much you will tolerate honestly. in the end we are all gearheads on here with different tastes and expectations so good luck with your build.
oh and my suggestion would be a Yank or Circle D stall and 3.90 or 4.10 gears and let it rip and you could use a little taller tire to kill off some of that gear ration on the HWY such as a 28" tall tire
