Default Shift issues after intake swap

Hey guys,

Long time user, first time poster.
I just recently swapped out my stock ls1 intake for a ls6+85mm TB. All went well and the car drive fine for the first day. I am now noticing that the trans shifts early at anything but WOT. At WOT it shifts normally but I have a huge power loss right after the shift. I have also noticed that at part throttle it will shift very early and the shifts are tighter than normal (i.e. chirps tires when shifting at 3-4k). I have checked all plugs and vacuum lines and all seems normal. I have yet to check TCC/TPS readings. Thanks for any help in advance.

Vehicle is a 98 Camaro SS with the following upgrades:
CAI
LS6 intake/85MM TB
LT's
Full exhaust w/o cats
AIR/EGR delete

Did you get it retuned after the swap?

I will be putting a cam in next week so I planned on doing the tune then.

Not sure if this helps but from a stop until first shift the car performs beautifully. There was a noticeable gain in hp after the swap. Its when 2nd gear hits that power is lost and it kinds bogs down.

It could possibly be an issue with your map sensor. It it's not firmly in place, it may be leaking under pressure and that can throw off your shifting.

The map sensor did seem like it could have fit a bit more snug. I also got a tp sensor high voltage code now. Ill replace both tomorrow and see what happens.

Finally got around to replacing the TPS. The shifting is fixed now - horray! Unfortunately, now I have an idle of around 1200 in park. I unplugged the sensor and turned the key on for 30s, turned off the key and plugged the TPS back in. Same idle in park. Any ideas?

Well, I spoke too soon. Took it out on the highway and I am having the same problems. It loses power at about 5500 WOT, shifts into second, then third and fourth in a matter of seconds, all while at WOT.

Is it possible that the lack of tune could be causing this? My cam kit arrives today from TSP and I was hoping to tackle this problem before tearing the engine open.

You need to stop beating on the car untuned.

Back again with the same problems as before. Had it tuned by Frost and it seems to be running excellent, minus the bogging down immediately after shifting into 2nd. This problem initially happened after changing to an LS6 intake and aftermarket TB. I have tried a new TPS, but the problem was soon to return after doing so. Any suggestions? I would really like to take it to the strip this weekend and see what type of numbers I can pull.

Was it doing anything like this before the intake swap...I mean anything at all?

The car was bone stock besides the CAI before the I/TB swap. The problem was definitely not there before. The intake has been off twice since then and the MAP seal was replaced as well.

It sounds similar to MAF-related misbehavior. Unless it got dirty somehow, it's hard to imagine how it would be related to your swap. You could try test driving it with the MAF unplugged and see if it still does the same thing.

Unplugged the MAF and the problem remains. If anything, that seemed to make it worse. If I can get my hands on a friends scanner, is there anything specific I should be watching?

Sounds like extra air is getting in without the MAF knowing about it...

do you have any log files to post...?
