Default 430-450 rwhp build...advice needed

Alright guys so I have a 2000 ws6 I purchased last year and I got some funds to start making some power out of that ls1. I have owned 2 ls cars before this one but both were stock so I am a complete noob when it comes to heads and cam numbers and lsa, what kind of combo can I pair up to get that basses cam sound. I want if possible with my budget of 4-5k get close to that 430-450 rwhp as possible. Also car is an m6 so what other mods do I have to do to not compromise the drivability of the car. Do I need a new rear end when pushing that much power and do I need to rebuild the tranny. Thanks in advance guys.

I think a quality heads/cam/intake build would be able to get you those numbers. It would be a good idea to put different gears in the rear like 3.90s or 4.11's, it'll help with the larger cam.

Are you going to be running this car at the strip? Street only? Drag racing or just cruise around for fun?

But yes, a good set of heads, a cam spec'd by mamo, tooley, or AI, intakes, and then bolts on should easily get you to 450rwhp and maintain good street manners.

If you want something more specific, this is what I'm doing:
243 Heads ported by AI (With BTR plat spring package)
Cam spec'd by AI
Fast 92 (or 102 if I can get a decent price on it)
I'd upgrade your injectors too, to something like the White Bosch 3's Part # 0280155811
Since you're an M6 a clutch is a must as well. The stock one may hold up for a little while but I guarantee it'll let go eventually.

Vengeance racing is having a sale on their fast manifolds. 899 ported for either

This car is going to be a 98% percent street car...and rarely taken to the track...what is the difference between the 92 and 102 lsxr intakes?

OP,

Your wants have been asked billions of times on this site. Id go with a simple proven combo...

TSP PRC 5.3 Heads
TSP Torquer 2 232/234
All bolt ons!!

Done!!!!

You should be able to hit your numbers, and not go in circles about a h/c combo.

No need for a custom cam..

A good heads/cam package should have no issues helping you make that power. We can certainly help you choose the best combo, we will need some details as in how it will be driven, Auto/Manual, Stall ....etc
We currently have out Heads/Cam packages on sale as well as many other performance items! Check out our sale ad and if you have any questions please feel free to give us a call.

Your budget will support what you're trying to get to.

I went with milled PRC Stage 2.5 5.3 heads, a mild 228 Cam Motion cam, Vengeance-ported FAST 92 intake and full bolt-ons and laid down 440/408.

There's still power left on the table with my setup, however I just added a 150 hp wet shot with the savings from my "budget" build.

The TSP cams are good, I've ran the Torquer 2 listed here personally but would actually prefer the MS3 over it as far as TSP cams go. With that said, there's superior grinds out there with more forgiving lobe designs that don't thrash your valve train. EPS, AI, Tick, BTR are some to name a few.

Not to jack your thread my man, but does anyone here think my RWTQ is kinda low? I was expecting it to be in the low 400's.

Stalled auto I wouldnt worry about the low number so much as how it runs at the strip.

If you don't already have LT's and an exhaust, you're going to need them too. You're probably going to run over budget to reach 430-450 rwhp. Don't forget that all of the small items you'll need add up quickly. At the end you'll need a tune and you'll probably need injectors for an adequate fuel supply.

Buy a rearend that can take the power first. Then move on to H/C/I.

Having a sweet engine with a busted rear isn't much fun.

My car made 434HP/398 ft-lbs through a stalled auto with the combination listed below on a dynojet. Your car should make a little more since it has a manual trans. I could do a few things to optimize the combination 1 7/8 headers, under drive pulley, port the intake or fast 102. This combination is very streetable too.

If you plan on putting sticky tires on the car upgrade the rear end.

Stock 2002 LS1 short block, around 36k miles
243 heads, AI 226 CNC porting, milled to 62cc
BTR .660 valve springs
Comp Cams Trunion upgrade
AI 228/232@.05, .625 lift, 112LSA cam
Fast 92mm intake
1 3/4 LT headers
3.5in Mufflex Exhaust
Nick Williams 92mm throttle body
Fast 36lb injectors
85mm MAF
FTI 3200 stall torque converter
stock 4l60e
Strange 12 bolt with 3.42 gears
