Default BUILD THREAD "My son's first T/A - Bracket Car"

So I picked up a "pristine" 1998 black A4 Trans-Am with 153K on the clock. Someone had repainted it and put retro decals on (read Smokey and the Bandit). It is really nice with new paint, seats redone, new a/c, etc....This is to be my son's first 1/8th mi. "bracket car" (this will be a track only car, before you give me a hard time about putting my 16yo in a fast car. He has a 1999 RCSB Z71 that will be his DD). When I test drove it all seemed good except the tranny didn't feel quite right, no worries the price was right!! So I trailer it home to surprise my son when he gets home from school. Take for a spin, stand on it, and it doesn't shift out of first fast enough, hit the rev limiter and spun two bearing and locked up! OH WELL, I'm only 200 yards from my house. So the tear down/weight reduction begins.

Looks pretty nice, right?
-So the "budget" plan is to (EDIT SEE POST #23).
-Tranny undecided at this point....
-I have a built 10bolt that I took out of my car that was holding 540hp and 1.5 60's

He is really into it at this point! We took 168# out of it this weekend!!
With that said, I will have parts for sale as the build continues...
Who needs a "new A/C" system??

Hopefully this is the right section as it is a bolt-on car for now

How much did you pay for the car out of curiosity?

Well the guy was cool when I called him that afternoon, and gave me $500 back. So I'm in it for $2500
I'm thinking I can get a lot of my money back on parting out the "good stuff".

Everything peeled back for removal. Took it down so far I may just pull it out the top...Look how nasty the rockers are (come on people, change the oil!)

The pic of the rockers is disgusting! Its a shame folks dont take care of their vehicles. I am willing to bet they are the first ones to complain about the company not building proper cars as well. O well Looks like fun! Is your son helping you do this?

It was a running/driving car when I got it, everything worked! So at the time it was a steal. Fluids in tranny and engine were clean. First time I really stood on it.... bam, skreech, locked up. OH Well, she will be the cleanest "Racecar" at our tracks.

I will post some pics when I get the chance, but I thought it was a hell of a deal.

Now leaning towards a TMS 370" Longblock (EDIT: See post #23)....I guess it will be faster than my car (because of weight).. it is cheaper that accumulating parts for a shortblock. Now to decided on TH350 or 4L60E. Already figured out how I'm gonna put a "throttle stop" on it to keep it tame while he learns/gets seat time. Am I building a car for ME or him??
Oh well, I can sell my P&P L92, intake, and rails to offset cost.
